Tim Britton graduated from the University of Lowell in 1990 with a degree in criminal justice and psychology. He began his career in September 1991 as a social worker with the Department of Social Services, where he quickly developed a passion for supporting children and families. Early in his career, Tim worked in a unit focused on achieving permanency for children, laying the foundation for his future work in adoption.
He soon transitioned into the role of adoption social worker, where he excelled for the remainder of his career. Throughout the years, Tim helped countless children find permanent, loving homes, often forming meaningful and lasting connections with both the children and their adoptive families. His dedication also led to strong partnerships with providers who share the mission of creating lifelong connections for children.
Tim’s commitment has been recognized through several honors, including the MARE Outstanding Dedication and Commitment to Waiting Children and Families award in 2016 and the MARE Child Welfare Worker Appreciation Award in 2023.
After 35 years of service with the Department of Children and Families, Tim will retire in May 2026, leaving behind a lasting legacy of compassion, advocacy, and impact. In addition to his work with families, he has been a valued mentor and source of support for many colleagues throughout his career.
