"Mama" Joyce James is the President and CEO of Joyce James Consulting, (JJC). JJC provides technical assistance and support, training, coaching, data analysis and leadership development to multiple systems, institutions, and faith and community-based organizations across the country with a specific focus on removing institutional and structural barriers that contribute to poor outcomes for children, youth, and families. Joyce served as the Assistant Commissioner of Texas Child Protective Services and as Associate Deputy Executive Commissioner of the Center for Elimination of Disproportionality and Disparities and the Texas State Office of Minority Health. Her knowledge and expertise as told through her story about her journey from caseworker to commissioner and her personal struggle to hold true to her social work values, has contributed to her recognition as a national expert on these issues.
